CANCELED - North Santiam trip on October 16, 17 & 18.
You will need to make individual camp sites reservations at Fisherman's Bend Campground which you can book through https://www.recreation.gov/ .. The campground is on Highway 22 about two miles west of Mill City. There are very nice riverside spots available and RV sites as well. The park typically asks that no firewood be brought in. They do offer firewood for sale. Due to Covid, no showers are available this year.
This trip is timed to take advantage of the beautiful autumn color along the river. The dates should put us right near the peak of the color change. Using Fishermen's Bend Campground as a take-out or put-in, the river has two fun runs. One is an 8 mile run from Marion County's Packsaddle Park to Fishermen's Bend. This is considered a Class III run with Spencer's Hole, Carnivore and Mill City Falls being the most well known and most challenging rapids. The second Run is a 7 mile, Class II stretch that starts at Fishermen's Bend and continues to the bridge in Mehama. This stretch is a favorite of kayakers and canoeists. You can learn more about the segments in the book Soggy Sneakers, or contact us directly. We also have the option of using Santiam State Park as an alternate access to extend or shorten a custom run. Nearby, in Mill City, there is a very good pizza place and a very popular burger place within a couple of miles of Fishermen's Bend. Both offer takeout.
If you have any questions, please contact us. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.
